Phil
Fest
Phil's
background and training give his musicality a unique
twist...uncommon for his generation. Having grown up
in a musical family, Phil was exposed to Brazilian
and American Jazz from an early age. |

At 16, Phil began to
learn to play the guitar. This came easily to him, after
having already mastered the clarinet and violin through a
combination of formalized training and self taught
techniques. He was also influenced by his mother, a
composer and music instructor and by his father, recording
artisit Manfredo Fest, who was the keyboardist and Music
Director for Bossa Rio.
Phil remembers hanging
out backstage when he was a kid with the likes of Sergio
Mendes. He has performed with the who's who of oldies from,
Joey Dee and the Starlighters (Peppermint Twist" and
"Shout") to Bo Didley, Spencer Davis, the
Coasters and the Drifters, and many others.
Among Phil's
accomplishments are four recorded compact discs, with his
father Manfredo Fest for Concord Jazz...Oferenda, Cornecar
De Novo, Fascinating Rhythm and Amazona. In the spring of
1995, Phil landed his first solo deal for Inspired Artists
"Acoustic Shores" and shortly after was awarded
the BAMA "Best Jazz Artist" award. He then
traveled with the Hendirck Muerkens Samba Jazz Quintet
throughout Germany and Denmark...then England and Spain
with the famous Brazilian singer, Maria Creuza.
Phil is sometimes joined
for live performances by jazz vocalist, Terezinha Valois
Fest. Terezinha believes that the universal language of
music should be improvised with all it's diversity. She is
able to utilize her voice to give rhthym and grace to many
different genres of latin musics, including: Bossa Nova,
Chorinho, Samba, Saraba-Reggae, Samba-Jazz, Samba-Duro,
Ballad, Forro, Reggae, Tango, Salsa...as well as American
Jazz standards and popular songs from Brazil.
