Toronto-born
saxophonist, singer, songwriter, and producer,
Warren Hill, has been very busy since his appearance
at the first Jazz on the Green event in 1996
("Jazz at the Harbour"), as evidenced by
his new album, "Love Life", which was
inspired by the birth of his daughter. "Love
Life," on the Narada Jazz label, marks his
sixth release to date. |

Hill’s
1991 debut album’s fast rise up the charts caught the
attention of Natalie Cole, who invited him to be the
opening act on the "Unforgettable" tour – that
year’s hottest ticket. His presence on stage, just as on
the record, was powerful, receiving standing ovations
every night. After the tour, Hill began building his
extraordinary track record. In 1993, he performed The
Passion Theme from the Body of Evidence
soundtrack. The song shot to #1 NAC and Top 40 AC radio.
The video, with clips from the movie starring Madonna, was
featured on VH-1 and earned Hill appearances on The
Tonight Show and The Arsenio Hall Show, among
others. At the same time, Hill collaborated with Restless
Heart on Tell Me What You Dream, a #1 AC hit named R&R’s
most played song of the year. In 1994, his memorable solo
on Big Mountain’s reggae rendition of Baby I Love
Your Way featured on the Reality Bites
soundtrack jolted the song to #1 on Top 40 Radio
worldwide. That same year, Hill’s third record TRUTH hit
#1 NAC (where it remained for six weeks) and reached the
Top 10 on Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz
chart.
The title of Warren Hill’s new album is an intentional
double entendre. LOVE LIFE is a reflection of Hill’s
positive attitude and intensely romantic, passionate
music. But more importantly, it’s an ode to loving life
even more after the birth of his daughter Olivia, an event
which Hill calls "my greatest production yet."
"The album title is not only about the sacred love
that I have for my wife, but also about learning all over
again to appreciate life now that I see it through my
daughter’s eyes as she grows each day," he says.
"Sometimes I feel myself bogged down with the
day-to-day grind and I get tunnel vision. Spending every
day with an exploring child forces you to stop and smell
the roses. This record definitely reflects musically where
I am at this time of my life."
Hill, who has spent the summer touring with the popular
'Guitars and Saxes,' says that he's "anxious to
return to Fort Myers" and looks forward to making it
a memorable night for all involved. Jazz on the Green is
indeed honored to welcome back our Innaugural performer
and knows that the end result of his participation --
funds raised for The Children's Hospital of Southwest
Florida -- will be yet a further reflection of
Hill's LOVE for LIFE.
