7th Annual Jazz
on the Green

Attendees were treated to an afternoon
and evening of smooth jazz under the stars, as Southwest
Florida welcomed a stellar cast of internationally-renown
artists, including:
Guitarist Joyce Cooling, a recent National Smooth Jazz
Awards nominee in the Best Guitarist and Best Female
Performer categories, opened the show. Her most recent
release, "Third Wish," is topping the smooth jazz charts.
She was followed by Latin Grammy winner, flutist
Nestor Torres. Look for Nestor's latest release coming
this summer! Next on the Jazz on the Green stage was
2002 National Smooth Jazz Awards Keyboard Player of the
Year, Brian Culbertson. Rounding out this all-star lineup
was the Grammy Nominee, saxophonist Kirk Whalum,also a
nominee for the 2002 Saxophonist of the Year at this
year's National Smooth Jazz Awards. Kirk was
accompanied by his brother Kevin, on vocals. Kirk Whalum
and Brian Culbertson, who collaborated on a song from
Brian's recent release, "Nice and Slow," joined for a
jam session at the end of the evening's show!

Smooth Jazz with brains....and beauty |

Mary Heath was the 2002 e-Fan Club winner!
She was the 7th person to email her reply
back...in honor of the 7th Annual Jazz on the
Green. Mary won a champagne gift basket with
autographed stuff, 2 Tshirts, priority autograph
signings and a backstage tour. She even got a hug
from Joyce Cooling and Nestor Torres! |

who has generously donated her artwork to Jazz on
the Green for the last 2 years, tirelessly signed
her beautiful artwork at the event. Bettie was
flown in from Los Angeles, California to do these
signings and meet the Jazz on the Green fans! |

Although
the final image may look like a painting, it is
actually a photograph using a Polaroid
SX-70 camera, one of the few that belong to a
permanent exhibition in the Museum of Modern Art in
New York City. Bettie's technique utilizes this unique film
to produce her unusual photographic art form.
With an
eye towards Impressionism, Bettie "shoots" her
compositions with a Polaroid and hand manipulates the
dyes in the film using a "brush-stroke" technique
during the few minutes it takes for the Polaroid to
fully develop.
Bettie's fine art photography, including her emerging
study of contemporary jazz musicians, is highly sought
